The enormous success of Rootrainers and their widespread adoption for the commercial growing of flowers, fruit and vegetables as well as trees and shrubs, is due to the many advantages they possess for horticulturist nurseryman, forester and nurseryman alike. These advantages may be summarised under four main headings:
Quality
Rootrainers encourage optimum root formation including strong, straight roots- a fundamental requirement of healthy and successful growth. The rectangular shape provides greater surface area and the grooves allow more roots to develop on the outside of the plug.
Economy
Rootrainers are re-usable and have been proved to have a long life - 6+ years is common in many nurseries. Also books may be replaced individually when damaged without the need to discard the whole tray.
Flexibility
Rootrainers are available in a number of different sizes to accommodate the widest possible range of plant species. The same outer tray is used for different sizes.
NB. Rootrainers are the only modular cell system which allows plants to be spaced out without re-potting.
Packing and Plant Delivery
Rootrainers plants are easily extracted from the 'open books' without 'shock' (even when frozen), for grading, packing and transplanting. The rectangular root plugs pack tightly into uniform bundles in plastic film for safe and economic delivery. Alternatively high value plants can be delivered in the Rootrainer books, which provide optimum protection.
