Promoting a Healthy Micro-environment for Plants

British Seed Houses have introduced a new product which will greatly help the gardener, allotment holder, farmer, nurseryman etc  with the problem of how much water and when?

Zeba has an extremely wide range of applications covering all aspects of indoor and outdoor gardening.  The product is a  unique super absorbent polymer based on natural corn starch which is non toxic and odourless.  It is 100% biodegradable and environmentally friendly with a slow release organic based fertiliser to promote a steady supply of nutrients for healthy plant growth.   Zeba holds 400 times its weight in water and reduce the frequency of watering.  The difference between Zeba and other water-preservation products is that the latter are synthetic polymers which hold water tightly and so are less effective in growing plants.  The most important factor is not absorbency, but the ability of any superabsorbent material to release water and this is where Zeba and is far superior. Zeba is available in two forms - granules or sachets

    Features of Zeba Granules

Zeba is especially beneficial in facilitating sod establishment by helping new sod to knit faster and lowering the susceptibility of drying out.  it has also been found that when used with potatoes early in the season Zeba encourages strong root development which continues through to the tuber formation and multiple trials have shown that bigger and better potatoes as well as more of them are produced.

Zeba, applied to the transplant water ensures that plants have a consistent source of moisture leading to less water stress and a better survival rate with a greater plant root and biomass development which in turn gives greater yields.

Zeba is a soil amendment but it does not physically change the amount of water a plant needs for optimum growth, it rather manages the water more efficiently - instead of the water being dispersed into the soil or evaporating, Zeba absorbs it and holds it for the plant to use as needed.  This "bound water" nourishes the plant more effectively and efficiently thereby reducing the total amount of water applied by about 25%.  In addition it does not trigger any chemical reactions.

Zeba benefits all soil types - in sandy soils where the soil particles are relatively large and have poor waterholding ability, Zeba holds water, preventing it from moving past plant roots; in cly solils where there is more compaction, benefit is obtained from increased aeration as Zeba expands and contracts, thereby increasing oxygen levels and water percoloation.  This expansion and contraction of the Zeba granules based on the amount of water availble forces soil particles apart and so ensuring tht there is no root rot.  Once the granules reach their maximum absorption excess water is allowed to move deeper into the soil profile.

The combination of ideal water availability and good aeration promotes faster growth and minimises any chance of root rot.

The use of Zeba will also keep the soil surface moist and minimise crusting by creating small fissure in the soil as granules absorb and release moisture.  This allows more seedlings to penetrate the surface and become established

Zeba will remain active and effective in the soil for 12 months to several years depending on the micro-organisms present in the soil, which will eventually cause biodegradation.  Cornstarch, the main component, is a food source for these micor-organisms and so what remains after biodegarding functions as a soil amendment to improve aeration and other soil characteristics.

     Aquafeed Plant Saver Bags

Aquafeed Plant Saver Bags contain Zeba as well as an organic based fertiliser which supplies a steady supply of nutrients for healthy plant growth.

The Plant Saver Bags can be applied with ease to a wide range of gardening areas eg planting holes, hanging baskets and can be introduced into the root systems of existing indoor or outdoor plants.

The use of  Aquafeed Plant Saver Bags can cut watering by half by creating a natural water reservoir for plants and releasing 95% of water back to the plant.

The sachets remain active for 12 months before biodegrading
