    Ideal for tomatoes!

The Growpot has been designed and developed for use with all types of grow bags and the following easy steps will get you up and running:

    • Shake or roll the bag to loosen any compacted material.  This ensures good root penetration as well as easy Growpot application
    • Place the bag on a flat surface free from sharp objects, making sure the contents is evenly distributed
    • Space the Growpots LIGHTLY on the bag at equidistant intervals
    • Using light pressure, pierce the bag and twist the Growpot in either direction so that the teeth cut through the grow bag
    • When fully seated remove the cut plastic bag circle through the inner pot
    • Repeat these steps with each pot
    • Place good quailty planting compost in the inner pot on top of the growing bag compost and fill till level with the top of the rim of the outer trough.  (Match planting compost to growing bag compost i.e peat to peat, coir to coir)
    • At this stage, if planting tomatoes or cucumbers, ensure support strings or canes are already in situ and the loose ends of the strings hang into each pot
    • Hollow out the centre of the compost and place the plant in the hollow, tucking the loose end of the string under the rootball and firm the compost around, leaving the other end free to tension as needed. (Alternatively tie the string loosely around the bottom of the stem of the plant and as the plant grows, entwine the string around the plant gently, giving support)
    • Water plant in the inner pot to establih (approx 1 pint)
    • Fill each outer trough to top (4 pints) and leave to slowly saturate grow bag. (The time taken for the water to empty from the trough into the bag varies, but the slower the better.  Now you have a visual benefit in knowing an accurate amount of water has been applied and has entered the bag to supply the plant)
    • Most growing bags have drain holes pierced or printed on the sides. (If printed ensure that the drain holes are pierced through).  Drain holes must be on the top half of the bag
    • For the first 2 weeks do not apply any more water to the outer trough in order to ensure a strong, healthy root system
    • For the next 3 to 4 weeks preferably water in the morning and pour a maximum of 2 pints (half full) in each outer trough every 2 to 3 days.  Water the inner pot once a week to ensure it does not dry out.
If excess water drains out of the holes of the bag then miss one day of watering.  You now have the benefit of visually seeing that sufficient water has been supplied to the growing bag and that because of the plant's primary or nutrient root position it will not become water logged.
    • As the plant grows, it sends down secondary roots into the growing bag and after 4 to 6 weeks it will be necessary to increase the amount of water in the outer trough.  (This can be visually checked by excess water seeping out of the drain holes
    • Any suitable liquid feed can be used and the relevant instructions for that feed should be followed.
Feed is applied to the inner pot which will take approx. 2 pints of liquid (generally sufficient for 1 week)
If nutrient roots appear on the surface of the inner pot, they should be lightly covered with more compost to keep the moisture in
    • Feeding should continue throughout the season
    • At the end of the season the bulk of the plant should be carefully cut and removed just above the inner pot.
    • The pot can then be twisted and lifted from the growing bag and the rootball and compost discarded
    • The Growpot can then be washed and dried and stored for use next season
